My Artistic Perspective

Italy, and the hidden treasures of my home country, are the only subjects of my photographic creations. Above all, I have a deep love for my country and for the beauty you find everywhere in Italy.

You will notice a common theme among my photos of Italy: I strive to show a timeless Italy – an Italy of the past. You will see a few people or automobiles in my photos – this is intentional.

I am interested in photography as an abstraction of reality. My approach is to simplify my compositions by focusing on the most important subject in the scene.

As a result, my work is sometimes printed in monochrome because the elimination of color forces the viewer to concentrate on the essential elements; light, form, and texture.

I like the square format in photography. Square format photographs incorporate a powerful design element in them. Above all, shapes, and the negative space around them, become prominent. In addition, you can simplify the composition almost to the point of abstraction. Most importantly, square prints look good on a wall. They have a certain inherent beauty that rectangular images lack.

about Paolo Modena

Paolo Modena

My name is Paolo. I am a photographer and author brought up in the mountains of northern Italy and I live in Milan with my wife, our two kids, and a cat we call Kiwi.

I consider myself fortunate to have grown up in Italy, surrounded by the art that is the envy of the world. My real passion has always been photography. As a result, I’ve been recognized with several awards from various Italian publications.

During my 20 years of experience as a fine art photographer, I have progressed through continuous learning culminating in my receiving a diploma from the John Kaverdash Academy in Milan—the most prestigious Photography Academy in Italy.

During my free time, I play chess and cultivate my garden. I have traveled to every continent apart from Antarctica.

I’m a supporter of AVSI, an NGO that carries out cooperative projects for development, with an emphasis on education. One-third of the price of my photographs, sold online, is donated to AVSI.

I enjoy photography because it has caused me to fall in love with light, shade, and color. I see the world around me with fresh eyes every single day. And sometimes, when the mood is right, I just sit back and enjoy the moment without taking a photo.

For years, I led a double life: manager in a multinational company by day and photographer at night with a focus on Fine Art and photography that accents Home Décor. Consequentially, I have come to know highly successful top-level managers. I‘m always surprised by one specific characteristic: they all have very elegant homes with luxury interiors…but most of the homes lack a real soul.

Changing that has become my mission. I like to contribute elegance to the homes of my clients using photographic creations designed for emotional impact. For that reason, I’m not looking for buyers: I’m looking for clients who would be proud to show sophisticated fine art in their homes.
