It’s the only architectural element that uses the color black to accentuate the perspective effect of the corridor. I have never seen anything similar to this before.
If you have the chance to visit Italy, I strongly suggest this experience, despite the fact that Venaria Reale is located in Northwest Italy, far from the traditional route most tourists of Venice, Florence, and Rome take.
This amazing location is very crowded most days, so it was not easy to find the right combination of opening time, perfect light, and empty space. It required several attempts to find this perfect combination, including the silhouette of a few people that you see in the doorway which provides proportion to the composition. Luckily, I live close to this location and I was not in a hurry so, after six months of visits, I was able to create this image.
Order and Harmony
There is a strong sense of order and harmony in this photograph due to the perfect symmetry and bold perspective. This is the first reason I chose a square format for this photograph. There is also a second reason, and it is related to the fact that the square format is one of the most flexible solutions for interior design.
The square format doesn’t work with all photographic subjects, but it is really effective when there is a strong point of interest in the center of it. In this specific case, we have the entrance of the galley with all the perspective lines converging on it, plus silhouettes of people to give a sense of proportion to the full image.
